Hereditary gingival fibromatosis (HGF) is a rare benign, slowly progressive, non-inflammatory fibrous hyperplasia of the maxillary and mandibular gingivae that generally occurs with the eruption of thMSH2017_2016_08_12:Abnormal enlargement or overgrowth of the gingivae brought about by enlargement of existing cells.MSH2017_2016_08_12:Excessive growth of the gingiva either by an increase in the size of the constituent cells (GINGIVAL HYPERTROPHY) or by an increase in their number (GINGIVAL HYPERPLASIA). (From Jablonski's Dictionary of Dentistry, 1992, p574)|HPO2016_07_04:Hyperplasia of the gingiva (FMA:59762, that is, a thickening of the soft tissue overlying the alveolar ridge. The degree of thickening ranges from involvement of the interdental papillae alone to gingival overgrowth covering the entire tooth crown. [pmid:19125428]MSH2017_2016_08_12:Non-inflammatory enlargement of the gingivae produced by factors other than local irritation. It is characteristically due to an increase in the number of cells.
