- Title
- The effect of Pomegranate juice supplementation on C-reactive protein levels: GRADE-assessed systematic review and dose-response updated meta-analysis of data from randomized controlled trials
- Review Question
- Will pomegranate juice supplementation have an effect on C-reactive protein levels? What is the best dosage of pomegranate juice to reduce protein CRP? What is the best duration of pomegranate juice supplementation to reduce protein CRP?
- Study Type Included
- Randomized controlled trials
- Condition Being Studied
- C-reactive protein (CRP) is an acute-phase protein produced by interleukin-6 (IL-6)-dependent liver biosynthesis. This serves as an indicator that levels were significantly elevated in response to injury, infection and inflammatory disease. As CRP is used as a clinical marker of inflammation, elevated CRP levels are known to be a strong independent predictor of cardiovascular disease and play an important role in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease.
- Participant
- To be considered, studies had to meet our eligibility criteria, which were as follows: 1) participants had to be adults aged 18 or older who had consumed pomegranate juice for any purpose, 2) the studies had to involve the use of any form of Ginseng supplements, 3) the studies had to use parallel and/or crossover randomized controlled trials to measure the lipid profile, and 4) the studies had to report comparisons between an intervention group and a control group.
