Title
Efficacy of Astragalus membranaceus membranaceus (Huang Qi) for cancer-related fatigue:A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies
Review Question
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of astragalus membranaceus on fatigue and quality of life in patients with cancer-related fatigue.
Study Type Included
RCT
Condition Being Studied
Cancer survivors experience cancer-causing fatigue in 60-100% of patients undergoing aggressive cancer treatment. At the same time, insomnia, pain and depression have also been shown to be significantly correlated with CRF, severely affecting patients' treatment adherence, recovery process and their quality of life.Nutritional support, one of the techniques commonly used in non-pharmacological interventions, is increasingly being used for symptom management in cancer patients and has been shown to be effective for cancer-caused fatigue and its associated symptoms. To date, no studies have comprehensively and systematically reviewed the effects of treatment with astragalus membranaceus and its extracts alone on fatigue in cancer patients.
Participant
Patients with pathologically diagnosed malignant tumours, assessed by the 10th revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) criteria or scale for cancer-related fatigue, without restriction on age, gender, race, tumour type, cancer severity, cancer duration and fatigue.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Inclusion criteria:the trial group administered a single selection of astragalus membranaceus or astragalus membranaceus extractions, without restriction of astragalus membranaceus type, dose, duration of treatment, and usage.Exclusion criteria:astragalus membranaceus was used in combination with other types of herbs or ingredients
Comparator Control
Inclusion criteria:conventional treatment, placebo or other therapeutic measures, the trial group must be consistent with the control group if combined with other therapies.
Main Outcome
Primary outcome indicators are CRF and quality of life
Outcome Measure
