- Title
- Comparative Efficacy and safety of Oral Chinese Patent Medicine for lumbar disc herniation: A Network Meta-Analysis
- Review Question
- In recent years, a large number of RCTs and meta-analyses have shown that Oral Chinese Patent Medicine have certain advantages over conventional drugs in the treatment of lumber disc herniation. However, due to the diversity of Oral Chinese Patent Medicine methods, its relative effectiveness have not yet been studied and explained. Therefore, based on the NMA analysis method, this study will compare the differences in the efficacy of Oral Chinese Patent Medicine in the treatment of lumber disc herniation, in order to provide a reference for clinical treatment.
- Study Type Included
- We will use randomised trials to assess the beneficial effects of the treatments.
- Condition Being Studied
- Lumbar disc herniation is a common and frequently occurring disease in spinal surgery. Lumbar disc herniation refers to a clinical syndrome caused by lumbar disc degeneration, rupture of fibrous ring, protrusion of nucleus pulposus, stimulation or compression of cauda equina nerve root, with lumbar pain as the common symptom. The disease mainly occurs in the lumbar 4, lumbar 5 and lumbar 5-sacral 1 space, which accounts for 90% - 96% of the incidence of lumbar disc herniation. The investigation found that the occurrence of lumbar disc herniation is closely related to occupation, exercise and heredity. People who are obese and smoke are more likely to suffer from lumbar disc herniation. If not treated in time or improperly, it will not only seriously affect the quality of life of patients, but also bring huge economic burden to the society.
- Participant
- Patients with lumbar disc herniation Exclusion: patients with lumbar disc herniation are associated with severe underlying diseases or complications, such as acute cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, severe hepatic and renal insufficiency, diabetes, severe endocrine diseases, tumors, severe infections or septic shock.

- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- In this study, we will analyse the comparative efficacy and safety of Oral Chinese Patent Medicine for lumbar disc herniation. Chinese patent medicine is a new dosage form of traditional Chinese medicine processed by modern science and technology under the guidance of traditional Chinese medicine theory. It is simple and cheap to treat diseases or combination of diseases and syndromes according to its function. Oral Chinese Patent Medicine prescription can not only repair bone, increase bone mass, improve bone biomechanical properties, but also alleviate or eliminate the waist and knee pain and other clinical symptoms. What‘s more, Chinese patent medicine can promote the local metabolism of lumbar intervertebral disc, accelerate the clearance of inflammation and reduce the pain of patients
- Comparator Control
- In addition to using Chinese patent medicine to treat LDH, steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs also play an important role in the treatment of LDH. Steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are classified into 7 ~ 8 categories. Aspirin, salicylic acid, propionic acid, indole and acetic acid are common in clinic. Aspirin salicylic acid mainly plays the role of pain relief, antipyretic and anticoagulation, and the side effects are also relatively large, so it must be used under the guidance of doctors; Propionic acid is also common, such as Fenbid and ibuprofen, with less side effects; Indole non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs have very strong analgesic effect, but the side effects are greater than Fenbid; Acetic acid non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are mainly used to relieve pain and fever. If they are not used correctly, they will cause serious gastric ulcer and bleeding.
