Review Question
Is tribulus terrestris effective and safe for treating sexual dysfunction in women?
Study Type Included
We will include only randomized clinical trials with parallel design and the first phase of cross over randomized clinical trials.
Condition Being Studied
Hypoactive sexual desire disorder is a sexual dysfunction characterized by a lack of sexual desire and disability of sexual fantasies. It is a common condition associated with an emotional and psychosocial burden as well an impairment in the quality of life.
Participant
Women (16 years or more) with the diagnosis of any kind of sexual dysfunction, including hypoactive sexual desire disorder.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Tribulus terrestris, at any dosage and administration scheme. We will consider associate therapies only if the effects of Tribulus terrestris could be assessed isolated.
Comparator Control
We will consider as comparator placebo, no intervention and any other intervention, including pharmacological and psychological interventions.
Main Outcome
Primary outcomes: a) Health-related quality of life, assessed by a specific tool for sexual dysfunction. b) Sexual Function, assessed by a validated tool, such as the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) or the Sexual Quotient Female Version (SQ-F). c) Serious adverse events, defined as the proportion of patients that presented at least one life-threating adverse events, that resulted in hospitalization, disability or incapacity. Measures of effect We will consider any time point reported by the review authors. However, we will only poll similar time points: short term (0 to 6 months) or long term (more than 6 months).

Secondary outcomes: a) Health-related quality of life, assessed by a generic tool. b) Serum testosterone levels, by any laboratorial measurement. c) Any adverse events, defined as the proportion of participants presenting at least one any adverse event. Measures of effect We will consider any time point reported by the review authors. However, we will only poll similar time points: short term (0 to 6 months) or long term (more than 6 months).
