- What is the efficacy and safety of Gushukang capsule in the treatment of primary osteoporosis?
- Study Type Included
- We only included RCTs that investigated the efficacy of Gukang capsule for OP without any limitation regarding the status of publication or language.
- Condition Being Studied
- Osteoporosis (OP), a chronic progressive skeletal disease, gradually manifests as low bone mass and bone microarchitecture deterioration, and consequently increases the susceptibility to fracture due to elevated bone fragility. From the data of National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2013–2014, among older adults the prevalence of OP and low bone mass ranged from 6 to 11% and from 28 to 45%, depending on the different locations, such as femur neck, lumbar spine, and either the femur neck or lumbar spine. In Chinese mainland, the incidence of OP fracture also showed steady growth. From 2012 to 2015, the prevalence of OP in China had increased to 27.96%, and the estimated prevalence will exceed 13.6% of Chinese elderly in 2050. According to the results of state-transition models, the substantial economic burden to the global healthcare system of osteoporosis-related fractures will significantly increase over the next decades. Therefore, to strengthen the early management of OP is of great importance. For the efficacy of Gushukang capsules, some experiments have showed that it could promote reproduction of osteoblasts and promote bone formation.
- Participant
- We will include participants diagnosed with primary osteoporosis according to any recognized criterion. Additionally, we will adopt other diagnostic criteria with comparable definitions. Postmenopausal osteoporosis and senile osteoporosis are considered POP.

- Intervention
- The intervention groups were treated with Gushukang capsules alone or combined with conventional treatments. There are no limitations to the dosage or treatment Gushukang capsules used.
- Comparator Control
- The control groups were treated conventional treatments, placebo or conventional treatments plus placebo.
- Main Outcome
- Primary outcomes are the visual analogue scale and bone mineral density. Measures of effect We will use the mean difference (MD) for continuous outcomes.

- Secondary outcomes are total effective rate and biochemical outcomes. Measures of effect We will use the mean difference (MD) for continuous outcomes. We will use the relative risk (RR) for dichotomous outcomes
