Title
Network Meta-analysis of oral Chinese patent medicine in treatment of Primary osteoporosis
Review Question
The aim of this meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of oral Proprietary chinese medicines for primary osteoporosis。
Study Type Included
Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) will be included
Condition Being Studied
Primary osteoporosis (POP) is a bone disease related to increasing age, it is estimated that in 2006, there were nearly 70 million OP patients in China, and the number of bone loss patients has exceeded 200 million. Despite the lack of recent epidemiological data, the number of OP and bone loss estimated in China has far exceeded the above figures. With the aging of the population, the harm of osteoporotic fractures is enormous, and it is one of the main causes of disability and death in elderly patients. Traditional Chinese medicine is based on the concept of kidney deficiency and has certain advantages in the treatment of OP, but at present, there are many types of proprietary Chinese medicines for the treatment of primary osteoporosis and the difference in efficacy is still inconclusive.
Participant
Inclusion criteria:The study participants met the international or domestic diagnostic criteria for primary osteoporosis, including outcomes for efficiency, bone density, and calcium concentration. Exclusion criteria: Studies without the above outcome measures, erroneous data or incomplete studies were excluded, and the most representative article was selected for repeated publications.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Oral proprietary Chinese medicines are the main interventions (e.g., Zuo Gui Pill, You Gui Pill, Xian Ling Gu Bao Capsule, Qiang gu Capsule, gushukang Capsule, Gu Kang Granule and Jin Tiange Capsule)
Comparator Control
Oral conventional Western medicines (e.g., calcium, sodium alendronate, vitamin D, and its analogues)
Main Outcome
Main outcome measures included total efficiency, bone density, and calcium ion concentration Measures of effect All indicators were analyzed using a fixed-effects model. The ratio ratio (OR) is used if the index is a categorical variable, and a weighted mean genera difference (WMD) is used if it is a continuous variable.
