- Title
- Efficacy and safety of 9 types oral Chinese patent medicine in the treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy: a Network Meta-Analysis
- Review Question
- Network Meta-Analysis was used to investigate the efficacy and safety of different types of oral Chinese patent medicine for patients with diabetic retinopathy.
- Study Type Included
- Randomized controlled trials (RCTs)
- Condition Being Studied
- Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is currently recognized as one of the serious diabetic microangiopathies and is the leading cause of blindness in adults. According to the International Diabetes Federation estimates, the number of people with diabetes will reach 642 million worldwide in 2040, and 34.6% of these patients will have diabetic retinopathy as a complication. Many oral classes of traditional Chinese medicine (OCM), including tonics and proprietary Chinese preparations, are widely used in the treatment of DR and have achieved good results. Therefore, we searched all randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of OCM for DR and initiated this network meta-analysis (NMA) to compare the efficacy between them, hoping to provide some suggestions for clinical practice.
- Participant
- inclusion criteria:Patients with DR who met the diagnosis of DR, regardless of age, sex, occupation and region of origin. and were not associated with other serious underlying diseases such as acute myocardial infarction, severe heart failure, coagulation disorders or liver or kidney disease, had malignancy, and had an expected survival of less than one year; the diagnostic criteria needed to meet the accepted diagnostic criteria for DR at the time of study publication. exclusion criteria:Duplicate published literature, summaries of personal experience, purely theoretical studies, reviews, animal experiments, and original studies with incorrect or incomplete data in the literature should also be excluded.

- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- Receive only conventional therapy (conventional therapy (CT) mainly includes hypoglycemic drugs, lipid-lowering drugs and antihypertensive drugs, among which hypoglycemic drugs can include subcutaneous injection of insulin, in addition, other injectable drugs are not acceptable; antioxidant, improve microcirculation drugs, such as calcium hydroxybenzoate, pancreatic kininogenase; promote retinal metabolism, nutritional eye nerve drugs, such as lecithin complex iodine).or Add oral Chinese patent medicine (OCM) to the above
- Comparator Control
- Patients in the Control group received onlyconventional therapy (basic conventional therapy (CT) mainly includes hypoglycemic drugs, lipid-lowering drugs and antihypertensive drugs, among which hypoglycemic drugs may include subcutaneous injection of insulin, in addition, other injectable drugs are not acceptable; antioxidant and microcirculation improving drugs, such as calcium hydroxybenzenesulfonate, pancreatic kininogenase; promote retinal metabolism, nutritional eye nerve drugs, such as lecithin complex iodine). The Comparator group was added to the control group with OCM.All studies performing non-oral treatments such as laser photocoagulation, surgery, injectable fluids, acupuncture, tui-na, and traditional Chinese gong methods were excluded.
