- Title
- Efficacy of Compound Danshen Dropping Pills on Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
- Review Question
- Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is one of the most common neurological complications of diabetes mellitus, which brings diabetic patients with much physical pain and their living inconvenience. At present, although there are many clinical treatments of DPN by Compound Danshen dripping pills (CDDP), there is no certain meta-analysis to ensure the safety and positive effectiveness of those treatments. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical features of CDDP in treating DPN.
- Study Type Included
- RCT
- Condition Being Studied
- As a kind of progressive disease, diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) could cause impairment to the sensory movement of peripheral nervous system, with autonomic nervous system involvement and motor function which is the most common complication of diabetes. For this kind of neuropathy, the symptoms or clinical signs start with the foot, involve more and more proximal parts of the lower limbs, and end up affecting the distal parts of the upper limbs. Then, the shorter sensory axon is involved, causing more neuropathy in the proximal and anterior trunk of the limb, for which it is called the dying back syndrome.
- Participant
- A total of 1924 participants were involved in this RCT study.Firstly, it is randomized controlled clinical trial (RCT) Secondly, all cases involved met the diagnostic criteria for diabetes published by the World Health Organization in 2020. Thirdly, the patients suffered from diabetic neuropathy, such as pain numbness in the feet, weakness, burning sensation and other limb dysfunction, or physical examination of the Achilles tendon and knee reflex weakened, or disappeared or the nerve conduction speed is lower than normal. Fourthly, the age and follow-up time of patients are unrestricted, with the publication language limited to Chinese and English. The literature with the following characteristics is excluded from this meta-analysis. Firstly, it does not include RCT or repeated publications. Secondly, it is related to animal experiments or cell research. Thirdly, it is a review of articles. Fourthly, it applies other traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the control groups. Fifthly, DPN is not referred to in the text. Sixthly, CDDP is applied in the control group. Lastly, there is no complete results data.
