- Comparative efficacy of 10 kinds of Chinese patent medicines in stable angina pectoris: a Bayesian mixed treatment comparison
- Review Question
- To compare the efficacy of ten different Chinese patent medicines (CPMs) and to rank their benefits relative to each other in the treatment of stable angina pectoris (SAP).
- Study Type Included
- Randomized, controlled trials (RCTs) will be included to assessed the effects of 10 kinds of CPMs in the treatment of SAP regardless of blinding or language. Duplicate and no sufficient information studies will be excluded.
- Condition Being Studied
- Ischemic heart disease (IHD) as one of the leading global causes of lost life years. Stable angina pectoris (SAP) is the main symptomatic manifestation of IHD. Stable angina has a significant impact on functional capacity and quality of life, as well as its associated risk of cardiovascular death and recurrent myocardial infarction. It is hoped that the findings of this study will facilitate the management and application of CPMs in the treatment of SAP.
- Participant
- Participants suffering from stable angina pectoris diagnosed according to the standards by the joint international society and federation of cardiology/World Health Organization on ischemic heart disease in 1979 and American guidelines in 2002 will be included. Participants suffering from myocardial infarction, unstable angina pectoris or other complicated heart disease conditions will be excluded. There will be no limits on age, gender, race or nationality.

- The review will compare the efficacy of 10 kinds of CPMs (Naoxintong Capsules, Shexiang Baoxin Pills, Guanxin Shutong Capsules, Heart Musk Pills, Yindan Xinnaotong Capsules, Liqi Huoxue Drop Pills, Xinkeshu Tablets, Yixinshu, Yangxinshi Tablets, Tongxinluo Capsules, and Compound Danshen Dripping Pills) in the treatment of SAP. All of these 10 kinds of CPMs can improve blood circulation and have anti-ischemic effect. There will be no limitations on treatment courses or drug dosages.
- Comparator Control
- To facilitate data analysis, conventional treatment has been defined as antiplatelet therapy, beta-blocker therapy, and anti-ischemic therapy. Furthermore, some symptomatic supportive treatments, such as adjustment of blood lipids and control of blood pressure will also be included. Eligible comparisons are as follows: a. CPM a + conventional treatment versus CPM b + conventional treatment; b. CPM + conventional treatment versus conventional treatment.
- Main Outcome
- Endpoints of interest will include acute myocardial infarction (AMI) incidence (fatal and non-fatal). Measures of effect The number of patients have acute myocardial infarction incidence.

- Electrocardiogram test and symptom relief. Measures of effect The secondary outcome of interest will include the number of patients with improvement of ischemic changes on electrocardiogram (ECG) and symptom relief.
