- Review Question
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic airway disease characterized by airflow limitation. Because of its large number of patients, high mortality, and heavy socio-economic burden, it has become an important public health problem. As a complementary and alternative medicine, it is reported that Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a good therapeutic effect on stable COPD, which can reduce mortality and reduce the risk of acute exacerbation. Bufei Huoxue Capsule is composed of Astragalus membranaceus, red peony, and Psoralea corylifolia. It is clinically suitable for the supplementary treatment of stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of TCM Bufei Huoxue Capsule on stable COPD.

- Inclusion criteria: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs), cluster-randomized control trials, and Longitudinal trials. Exclusion criteria: Cross-sectional trials, in vitro studies, expert opinion, case reports, editorial pieces, Quasi-randomized trials, and observational studies.

- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic airway disease characterized by airflow limitation. The pathogenesis of COPD is that chronic irritants act on the airway and cause abnormal inflammatory reactions in the airway. The clinical manifestations are cough, expectoration, asthma, dyspnea, etc., and can develop into respiratory failure in the late stage.
- Participant
- Inclusion criteria: Patients meet the diagnostic criteria of the GOLD guidelines 2021 and are in the stable stage of COPD. Patients with other serious illnesses will be excluded. There will be no limit on the ages and sex of participants.

- The treatment group of COPD patients was treated with Bufei Huoxue Capsule.
- Comparator Control
- Inclusion criteria: Patients use conventional treatment, which includes oxygen therapy, West Medicine such as ICS, LAMA, LABA, and placebo granule.

- We will take mortality, risk of acute attack as main outcomes.

- 1. Pulmonary function including FEV1/FVC, FEV1%predicted, and RV/TCL. 2. Partial pressure of oxygen and carbon dioxide in arterial blood. 3. Quality of life evaluation: St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ), COPD Assessment Test（CAT）, modified British medical research council (mMRC).
