- Evidence-Based Study of Traditional Chinese Medicine Compounds or Patent Medicines Combined With Conventional Triple Therapy in the Treatment of Peptic Ulcer: A Systematic Review and Bayesian Network Meta-Analysis
- Review Question
- Peptic ulcer is a kind of ulcerative disease that the digestive tract is stimulated by various pathogenic factors, which leads to the imbalance of the digestive tract's self-defense and repair function, and causes the localized defect, penetration and necrosis of the mucosal layer of the digestive tract. TCM treatment of peptic ulcer has certain advantages. In clinical treatment, traditional Chinese medicine compounds or patent medicines such as Huangqi Jianzhong Decoction, Xiaojianzhong Decoction, Xiangsha Liujunzi Decoction, Banxia Xiexin Decoction, Chaihu Shugan Powder, Wubei Powder, Jinghua Weikang, Weifuchun, Kangfuxin Liquid are commonly used. And the aim of this study is to assess the direct and indirect efficacy of the use of different Chinese medical formulas in peptic ulcer by network Meta-analysis.

- Conventional medicine indicates that the occurrence of peptic ulcer is related to the infection of Helicobacter pylori (Hp), the overuse of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and the excessive secretion of gastric acid and pepsin to digests its autologous tissues. Its clinical treatment is usually single or combined use (triple/quadruple) of proton pump inhibitors, antibiotics and mucosal protectant, but this kind of treatment has obvious side effects, easy to relapse, poor therapeutic effect and great limitations. A large number of clinical RCT studies have shown that the combination of traditional Chinese medicine compound and conventional western medicine therapy has a significant effect on the treatment of peptic ulcer, and has a lower adverse reaction rate and recurrence rate than conventional western medicine treatment. At present, there are no studies in China or any other counties to indirectly compare or directly compare the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine combined with conventional western medicine by statistical method of network meta-analysis.
- Participant
- Inclusion: Patients should be those adults with helicobacter pylori positive peptic ulcer. We will not apply any other restrictions of race, age, education background, and economic status or any other confounding factor. Exclusion: The datas were incomplete, study with less than 20 patients.

- Inclusion: The experimental group was treated with traditional Chinese medicine compounds or Chinese patent medicines that was used to the clinical treatment for peptic ulcer, including Huangqi Jianzhong Decoction, Xiaojianzhong Decoction, Xiangsha Liujunzi Decoction, Banxia Xiexin Decoction, Chaihu Shugan Powder, Wubei Powder, Jinghua Weikang, Weifuchun, Kangfuxin Liquid, combined with conventional medicine therapy in the control group. Each medicine is a separate intervention in the analysis. We will not combine different medicines into the same intervention. In the course of the analysis, if there are any traditional Chinese medicine compounds or Chinse patent medicines that is not mentioned for the treatment of peptic ulcer, we will consider them as eligible and we will include them in the network after assessing their comparability with the pre-specified set of competing interventions. Exclusion: The intervention in certain study that is not mentioned in the list of the inclusion criteria, and patients in the experimental group recepted different traditional Chinese medica wiil be excluded.
- Comparator Control
- Inclusion: The control group was treated with the same conventional medicine therapy as the experimental group without the Chinese compounds or Chinese patent medicines. Exclusion: The medicine of the control group in certain study was not the same with the method of experimental group will be excluded.
- Main Outcome
- The main outcome was Hp eradicate rate, and the secondary outcomes included effective rate/curative effect and recurrence rate. Measures of effect Binary variable will be assessed by relative risks.
