本品形如沙苑子，表面鼓起，深褐绿色或深灰褐色。气微，味微咸，嚼之有豆腥味。

炮制
沙苑子 除去杂质，洗净，干燥。
贮藏
置通风干燥处。
鉴别
（1）本品粉末灰白色。种皮栅状细胞断面观1列，外被角质层；近外侧1/5～1/8处有一条光辉带；表面观呈多角形，壁极厚，胞腔小，孔沟细密。种皮支持细胞侧面观呈短哑铃形；表面观呈3个类圆形或椭圆形的同心环。子叶细胞含脂肪油。 （2）取本品粉末0.2g，加甲醇10ml，超声处理30分钟，放冷，滤过，滤液蒸干，残渣加甲醇2ml使溶解，作为供试品溶液。另取沙苑子对照药材0.2g，同法制成对照药材溶液。再取沙苑子苷对照品，加60%乙醇制成每1ml含0.05mg的溶液，作为对照品溶液。照薄层色谱法（通则0502）试验，吸取上述三种溶液各2μl，分别点于同一聚酰胺薄膜上，以乙醇-丁酮-乙酰丙酮-水（3∶3∶1∶13）为展开剂，展开，取出，晾干，喷以三氯化铝试液，热风吹干，置紫外光灯（365nm）下检视。供试品色谱中，在与对照药材色谱和对照品色谱相应的位置上，显相同颜色的荧光斑点。

补肾助阳，固精缩尿，养肝明目。用于肾虚腰痛，遗精早泄，遗尿尿频，白浊带下，眩晕，目暗昏花。
