- Title
- Galactomannans are the most effective soluble dietary fibers in type 2 diabetes: a systematic review and network meta-analysis
- Review Question
- Does high dietary fibre intake decrease the HbA1C compared to low dietary intake? P: Patients with type 2 diabetes I: soluble (B-glucan, Galactomannan, Glucomannan, Inulin, Tora fibre, Fucoidan), non-soluble dietary fibre and no fibre (placebo or starch, xylitol, sucrose) C: soluble (B-glucan, Galactomannan, Glucomannan, Inulin, Tora fibre, Fucoidan), non-soluble dietary fibre and no fibre (placebo or starch, xylitol, sucrose) O: HbA1C, fasting glucose level, postprandial blood glucose, insulin level, HOMA-IR, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, Triacylglycerols
- Study Type Included
- Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are eligible for inclusion.
- Condition Being Studied
- 6.28% of the world’s population has type 2 diabetes. The incidence and prevalence of the disease continue to rise globally. Medical nutrition therapy is recommended for all patients with diabetes as an effective component of the overall treatment plan. Counting carbohydrates is necessary for diabetes management, however, the source or type of carbohydrate is essential too. A much less amount of dietary fibre intake is enough to reach a normal glycemic level in a short period. Our aim is to investigate the effects of dietary fiber supplementation on glycemic control and lipid profile in patients with type 2 diabetes.
- Participant
- Inclusion criteria: adult patients (≥ 18 years old) with type 2 diabetes Exclusion criteria: children or pregnant women
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- The intervention will be soluble (B-glucan, Galactomannan, Glucomannan, Inulin, Tora fibre, Fucoidan), non-soluble dietary fibre and no fibre (placebo or starch, xylitol, sucrose).
- Comparator Control
- The control group will have soluble (B-glucan, Galactomannan, Glucomannan, Inulin, Tora fibre, Fucoidan), non-soluble dietary fibre and no fibre (placebo or starch, xylitol, sucrose).
- Main Outcome
- The main outcome will be HbA1c. Measures of effect The measure of effect will be the mean difference of HbA1c with 95% confidence interval (Cls).
