- Title
- Efficacy of selenium in improving the outcomes of stroke patients: A systematic review of Randomized Clinical Trials.
- Review Question
- Is Selenium Supplementation Beneficial in Acute Ischemic Stroke?
- Study Type Included
- Both experimental (clinical trials: randomized and nonrandomized) and observational (cohort, case series, case-control, cross-sectional) studies.
- Condition Being Studied
- Stroke is a leading cause of mortality, accounting for 11.8% of all deaths globally. It represents the second most common cause of death worldwide and a significant cause of long-term morbidity. Although the brain is incapable of regeneration, the element Selenium (Se) has been found to have a role in regenerating the antioxidant systems and improving cell proliferation and viability. So, Selenium can provide a promising solution for patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke.
