Title
Phenylephrine infusion to reduce perioperative post spinal shivering in lower segment caesarean section- A systematic review and meta-analysis
Review Question
In this systematic review and meta-analysis, our aims will be to: Evaluate the Efficacy of Phenylephrine Infusion: We will assess the effectiveness of Phenylephrine infusion in reducing perioperative post-spinal shivering specifically in the context of lower segment caesarean section procedures. Quantify the Reduction in Shivering Incidence: Our goal is to quantify the extent to which Phenylephrine infusion decreases the incidence of shivering in women undergoing lower segment caesarean sections under spinal anesthesia. Assess Safety and Adverse Events: We will analyze the safety profile of Phenylephrine infusion, including any potential adverse events or side effects associated with its use in this particular population. Compare Phenylephrine with Other Interventions: We aim to compare the efficacy of Phenylephrine infusion with other interventions or placebo in preventing post-spinal shivering during lower segment caesarean sections. Explore Subgroup Analyses: In addition, we plan to conduct subgroup analyses to investigate whether the effectiveness of Phenylephrine infusion varies based on factors such as dosage, administration method, or patient characteristics. Provide Evidence-Based Recommendations: Ultimately, our objective is to provide evidence-based recommendations and insights to guide clinical practice and inform anesthesia protocols for lower segment caesarean section surgeries.
Study Type Included
Articles that contain relevant data for our review objectives will be selected for full-text screening. Studies that report clinical trials, in-vitro studies, randomized/non-randomized studies, systematic/literature reviews containing substantial sample volume and detailed case reports will also be considered for inclusion in our review. The following will be excluded from the scope of our systematic review: incomplete data, seminar presentations, scholarly articles, placebo-controlled studies, and opinion articles.
Condition Being Studied
In this systematic review and meta-analysis, our future aims are to evaluate the effectiveness of Phenylephrine infusion in reducing perioperative post-spinal shivering specifically in the context of lower segment caesarean section procedures. We will quantify the extent to which Phenylephrine infusion decreases the incidence of shivering in women undergoing these procedures under spinal anesthesia, assess its safety profile, compare its efficacy with other interventions or placebo, explore potential variations in effectiveness based on factors such as dosage and administration method, and ultimately provide evidence-based recommendations to enhance patient care and inform anesthesia protocols for lower segment caesarean sections.

Main Outcome
The main outcomes expected from this systematic review and meta-analysis on Phenylephrine infusion to reduce perioperative post-spinal shivering in lower segment caesarean section are: Incidence of Shivering: We anticipate determining the overall effect of Phenylephrine infusion in reducing the incidence of post-spinal shivering during lower segment caesarean sections. Efficacy Compared to Placebo or Other Interventions: We expect to compare the efficacy of Phenylephrine infusion with placebo or other interventions in preventing shivering, providing insights into its relative effectiveness. Safety Profile: Our analysis will focus on assessing the safety of Phenylephrine infusion, with a particular emphasis on adverse events or side effects associated with its administration in this context. Subgroup Analyses: We aim to explore potential variations in Phenylephrine's effectiveness based on factors such as dosage, administration method, and patient characteristics, which will help tailor recommendations for specific subpopulations. Clinical Recommendations: Ultimately, the study aims to provide evidence-based recommendations for the use of Phenylephrine infusion in the management of perioperative post-spinal shivering during lower segment caesarean sections, with the goal of optimizing patient outcomes and informing clinical practice in obstetric anesthesia.
