- To compare the adverse side effects of the common routes of oxytocin for preventing postpartum hemorrhage.
- Study Type Included
- Inclusion: all published randomized controlled trials (RCTs), irrespective of blinding status. Exclusion: quasi-randomized, cross-over, or observational trials will not be included, as these types of studies are more subject to bias.
- Condition Being Studied
- Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is still the most common form of major obstetric hemorrhage. It remains a leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality worldwide, even in high-income countries. Oxytocin is the first-choice used uterotonic agent as a result of its high efficacy and low incidence of adverse effects to prevent postpartum hemorrhage. It is commonly administered intramuscularly injection, intravenously infusion, or intravenously bolus. The aim of this study is to compare the adverse side effects of the common routes of oxytocin for preventing postpartum hemorrhage.
