Title
The effectiveness of four commonly used oral nutraceuticals in improving the Sperm quality in male infertility: a network Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
Review Question
This study aimed to compare the effects of four nutritional supplements (inositol, coenzyme, vitamin D, vitamin E) on male semenThis study aimed to compare the effects of four nutritional supplements (inositol, coenzyme, vitamin D, vitamin E) on semen in male infertility patients
Study Type Included
RCT
Condition Being Studied
Infertility is defined as being unable to conceive after 12 months of regular (at least twice weekly) unprotected intercourse . Male infertility is due to abnormal sperm parameters in the male partner and are estimated to be present in about 50% of cases . Insulin resistance has been recognized as a key contributor to the disease since infertile men are closely related to the occurrence of metabolic syndrome and diabetes . Currently, certain nutraceuticals such as coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), vitamin E(VE), vitamin D(VD), inositols, in particular myo-inositol (MI), have received widespread attention owing to their potential benefits in improving insulin resistance and ameliorating the sperm quality and metabolic disorders for male infertility
Participant
The inclusion criteria for this study were as follows: (i) type of studies, randomized clinical trials (RCTs) only, without limitations regarding the race or area constraints, but the language must be English; (ii) Infertile males with abnormal semen parameters; (iii) intervention:CoQ10, vitamin E, vitamin D, or inositols (MI or DCI) for the experimental group and placebo for the control group; (iv) target parameter, at least one parameter including sperm concentration, sperm motility, Sperm count, Semen volume and sperm morphology; Furthermore, the exclusion criterion was: (i)cointervention with other fertility-enhancing drugs being inapplicable to all intervention arms; (ii)studies with partially missing relevant data.
