- Title
- The use of magnesium sulfate in emergency agitation on adult patients under general anesthesia: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
- Review Question
- Is magnesium sulfate infusion throughout the surgical procedure under general anesthesia efficient on diminushing emergence agitation incidence and score among the adult population?
- Study Type Included
- Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) studies will be included in this meta-analysis.
- Condition Being Studied
- Occurrence of emergency agitation following general anesthesia entail a significant risk to both patients and staff safety. While numerous studies have investigated the impact of magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) in pediatric emergency agitation, its effectiveness in the adult population remains unknown. Therefore, this meta-analysis aims to compare the efficacy of MgSO4 in agitation following general anesthesia in adults.
- Participant
- Adult patients under general anesthesia for a surgical procedure were included. Age <18 YO, or patients undergoing nerve blocks, or spinal anesthesia were excluded.
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- infusion of magnesium sulfate throughout the surgery.
- Comparator Control
- placebo
- Main Outcome
- emergency agitation, emergence agitation score, extubation time and post operative nausea and vomiting (PONV) will be assesed. Measures of effect odds ratio and standard mean difference will be used as effect measures.
