Title
Effect of red yeast rice-containing Chinese Patient medicine combined with statins for dyslipidemia: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Review Question
This systematic review aimed to ystematically evaluate the effects of red yeast rice-containing Chinese Patient medicine combined with statins for dyslipidemia to provide evidence for clinical studies.
Study Type Included
Our study included all Randomized control trials (RCTs) that contrasted red yeast rice-containing Chinese Patient medicines (CPMs) combined with statins and statins alone.
Condition Being Studied
Hyperlipidemia is an increasingly prevalent cardiovascular disease worldwide. Studies have shown that hyperlipidemia is closely related to the development of cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, which seriously affects people's health and quality of life. In this context, the search for a safe and effective treatment is particularly important. The current research status shows that red yeast rice-containing Chinese Patient medicine, as a traditional medicinal food, has a variety of effects in the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, such as regulating lipids, anti-oxidation, and anti-inflammation, and has shown a certain degree of lipid-lowering effect in clinical practice. Although the potential of red yeast rice-containing Chinese Patient medicine in the treatment of hyperlipidemia has attracted much attention, its specific therapeutic mechanism and clinical application still need to be further explored. This systematic review aims to systematically evaluate the effect of red yeast rice containing traditional Chinese medicine combined with statins in the treatment of dyslipidemia, to provide a more comprehensive scientific basis to support its mechanism of action and curative effect in clinical application.
Participant
Patients with dyslipidemia diagnosed by a clinician or according to recognized diagnostic criteria, regardless of whether the patient has comorbidities. There were no restrictions on age, gender, race, or types of dyslipidemia.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Participants in the control group were treated with statins (fluvastatin, lovastatin, pitavastatin, rosuvastatin, and simvastatin etc.). Participants in the experimental group are provided with red yeast rice-containing CPMs combined with statins. The dose and types of statins in control and experiment group must be same.
Comparator Control
No restriction.
Main Outcome
The primary outcomes assessed in this study were the lipid profiles including low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1), apolipoprotein B (ApoB), and lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)]. Furthermore, we collected other valuable outcomes that can obtain the accurate data.
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
(1) clinical efficacy (The criteria was demonstrated in Supplementary Table S3); (2) Cardiac function: cardiac index (CI), cardiac output (CO), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), and left ventricular end-diastolic dimension (LVEDD); and (3) adverse events including muscular adverse drug reactions, liver dysfunction, and gastrointestinal reactions. The included studies had at least one of these outcomes. Additional outcome(s)
