- We will exclude studies that: - constituted publications in the form of abstracts in congress annals; book chapters without peer review; review studies; studies that were quasi-experimental, qualitative only, and studies lacking statistical analysis - duplicated studies We will include: Randomized Clinical Trials, Cohort, and Case-control
- Condition Being Studied
- One important complication due to sickling of red blood cells is the occlusion of small vessels leading to tissue infarction. In the study, we aim to assess the use of arginine in reducing the severity and duration of vaso-occlusive crisis.

- - Patients Sickle Cell Disease (Hb SS, Hb SC, Hb S beta-thalassemia); - Inpatient.
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- We will include studies that use arginine as a treatment for vaso-occlusive crisis, not for prevention or to decrease the incidence.
- Comparator Control
- We will include studies that compare arginine to placebo or standard therapy.
- Main Outcome
- We aim to assess if arginine's use reduced pain intensity, measured for instance by a visual pain scale, or the duration of the crisis measured by days of hospitalization. Measures of effect We aim to measure the effect by calculating relative risks, odds ratios, and/or number needed to treat.
