Title
Role of cervical cerclage, indomethacin and antibiotics in twin pregnancies
Review Question
Objective: To determine the role of cervical cerclage, indomethacin and antibiotics in reducing the risk of (spontaneous spreterm birth) sPTB in twin pregnancies. Study design: MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL and Cochrane databases were explored. The inclusion criteria were studies in which twin pregnancies were randomized to an intervention for the prevention of PTB (cervical cerclage, indomethacin and antibiotics, or any combination of these) or to a control group (e.g. placebo or treatment as usual). Interventions of interest were either cerclage(McDonald or Shirodkar), indomethacin or antibiotics. The primary outcome was gestational age (GA) at delivery. Both primary and secondary outcomes were explored in an unselected population of twin pregnancies and in women at higher risk of PTB (defined as those with or any combination of these) or to a control group (e.g. placebo or treatment as usual).). Case reports, reviews, meta-analyses, studies without controlled groups, and studies lacking outcomes of interest or necessary data were excluded.
