- Title
- Assessing the efficacy and safety of outpatient anticoagulation in COVID-19: a meta-analysis of clinical outcomes
- Review Question
- Is anticoagulation for patients with COVID-19 beneficial in an outpatient setting?
- Study Type Included
- Randomized controlled trials will be used. Observational studies will not be included.
- Condition Being Studied
- COVID-19, responsible for over millions of fatalities to date, has triggered a worldwide health emergency. This pandemic is characterized by localized inflammatory alterations in the lungs, alongside a heightened proclivity for blood clot formation, immune system irregularities, damage to the endothelial lining, and multiple organ failures. Anticoagulation for hospitalized patient with COVID-19 has been and is still being researched. However, the question remains whether to anticoagulate patients who tested positive for COVID-19 but not sick enough to be hospitalized. Does anticoagulation have any mortality benefit? Does it decrease the risk of thromboembolic events? Does it prevent hospitalization? Is there a bleeding risk accompanies those type of patients when anticoagulated? Is the risk of adverse events worth it to anticoagulate those patients? These are all questions that the team will try to answer by pursuing the data of clinical trials targeting this type of population.
