Title
Effectiveness of Herbal Treatments in Cervicovaginal HPV Infection: Meta-Analysis of Randomized Studies
Review Question
1. Do herbal treatments affect the lesions of HPV infection? 2. Do herbal treatments affect cytological regression?
Study Type Included
Comparison (C): Comparison, placebo, or control group receiving no treatment.
Condition Being Studied
Servicovaginal HPV
Participant
Participant (P): Women with cervicovaginal HPV infection. The following selection criteria were taken into account for the women included in the study. Women who (1) had HPV infection, (2) volunteered to participate in the study.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Intervention (I): Plant-derived interventions. Interventions included the following criteria (1): polyphenon E; (2) curcumin (turmeric); (3) antiviral drug; (4) myrtle vaginal suppository; (5) pervistop [200 mg epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), 400 µg folic acid (FA), 1 mg vitamin B12, and 50 mg hyaluronic acid (HA)]; (6) BasantTM (Polyherbal vaginal cream); (7) and their combinations.
Comparator Control
Comparison (C): Comparison, placebo, or control group receiving no treatment.
Main Outcome
Our primary results are the results regarding the effectiveness of herbal-derived treatments on clearing HPV infection Measures of effect Odds ratio (OR) for categorical variables, mean difference (MD) and standardized mean difference (SMD) for continuous variables were calculated. MD or SMD, along with the corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI), were appropriately pooled for continuous variables according to whether the outcomes were measured with the same scales. All tests were calculated from two-tailed tests, and a p value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
our secondary results are the results regarding the effectiveness of herbal-derived treatments in regressing cervicovaginal lesions. Measures of effect Odds ratio (OR) for categorical variables, mean difference (MD) and standardized mean difference (SMD) for continuous variables were calculated. MD or SMD, along with the corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI), were appropriately pooled for continuous variables according to whether the outcomes were measured with the same scales. All tests were calculated from two-tailed tests, and a p value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
