Title
Effects of Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) Supplementation on Ovarian Cumulus Cells in Women undergoing In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF)/ Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) – A Systematic Review
Review Question
Does DHEA supplementation improves oocyte cumulus cell functions of infertile women undergoing IVF/ICSI
Study Type Included
We will include all Randomised controlled trial, case-control, cohort studies that assess the beneficial effect of DHEA in ovarian cumulus cells function.
Condition Being Studied
Despite many trials conducted to explore the effects of DHEA supplementation but its clinical use in IVF practices remains controversial due to the conflicting results and absence of well-designed large-scale randomised trials. Recent studies have reported that DHEA supplementation might influence gene expressions of Cumulus cells (CCs) in poor ovarian response women. Thus, investigation of the effect of DHEA on gene expression of CCs may be a good idea to identify the exact mechanisms of DHEA in follicular microenvironment.
Participant
Inclusion Criteria: Infertile women undergoing In-vitro Fertilisation / Intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection treatment Exclusion Criteria: Women with history of oophorectomy or history of pelvic irradiation or chemotherapy for malignancy or any treatment which affects the ovarian function.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Supplementation with Dehydroepiandrosterone (any dosage / duration) prior to ovarian stimulation for IVF treatment.
Comparator Control
Group with similar characteristics but without DHEA supplementation prior to ovarian stimulation
Main Outcome
Any outcome in relation to cumulus cell function eg. gene expression, mitochondrial function assessment etc.
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
Clinical outcomes eg stimulation outcome, cycle outcome and pregnancy outcome.
Study Method
Intervention, Systematic review
