Title
The impact of direct oral anticoagulants and low molecular weight heparin on urological surgery patients: a network meta-analysis and cumulative meta-analysis
Review Question
What is the impact of direct oral anticoagulants or low molecular weight heparin on the surgical outcomes of patients undergoing urological surgery?
Study Type Included
Cohort studies. Randomized controlled trial
Condition Being Studied
Venous thrombosis. Urological surgery. Oral anticoagulants. Low molecular weight heparin.
Participant
Inclusion: Urology surgery patients. (Preoperative use of oral anticoagulants or low molecular weight heparin for anticoagulation) Exclusion: Patients undergoing non-urological surgeries, such as cardiac surgery or vascular surgery. Urology surgery patients. (Anticoagulation with medications other than oral anticoagulants or low molecular weight heparin before surgery).

Intervention
DOACs stands for Direct Oral Anticoagulants. These are a class of anticoagulant medications that are administered orally. Unlike traditional anticoagulants such as warfarin, DOACs directly target specific clotting factors, providing a more direct and predictable effect. The main types of DOACs include: Dabigatran (Pradaxa): Inhibits thrombin (Factor IIa). Rivaroxaban (Xarelto): Inhibits Factor Xa. Apixaban (Eliquis): Also inhibits Factor Xa. Edoxaban (Savaysa): Another Factor Xa inhibitor. Low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) is a type of anticoagulant medication that is derived from unfractionated heparin (UFH). Heparin is a naturally occurring substance found in the body, and it works by enhancing the activity of antithrombin III, a natural anticoagulant. LMWH is produced by breaking down heparin into smaller fragments, resulting in molecules with a lower molecular weight.
Comparator Control
