Title
Alopecia areata management: a systematic literature review on safety data.
Review Question
Are systemic corticosteroids (hydrocortisone, cortisone, prednisone, prednisolone, deflazacort, methylprednisolone, triamcinolone, betamethasone, dexamethasone and fludrocortisone), methotrexate, cyclosporine and azathioprine alone or in combination safe in the treatment of patients with AA?
Study Type Included
Clinical trials and observational studies.
Condition Being Studied
Alopecia areata (AA) is a condition that affects about 2% of the global population and imposes an important impact in quality of life. The basis of disease management is the use of corticosteroids; however, other options are available such as methotrexate, cyclosporine and azathioprine. The safety of a treatment strategy is an important issue for patients, physicians and policymakers.
Participant
Patients with the diagnosis of alopecia areata.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
