- Review Question
- Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality in cesarean section, and oxytocin is a commonly used drug for preventing PPH, but it also has some side effects and contraindications. Motherwort injection is a traditional Chinese medicine preparation that has uterine contraction effect and may have synergistic effect with oxytocin. This article aims to compare the efficacy and safety of motherwort injection combined with oxytocin versus oxytocin alone for preventing PPH in cesarean section by meta-analysis. This article will provide evidence support for the rational use of motherwort injection in clinical practice. Compared with previous studies, the advantages of this article may include the following: (1) This article will update the latest relevant literature, including randomized controlled trials published in recent years, to improve the timeliness and credibility of meta-analysis; (2) This article will focus on the efficacy and safety of motherwort injection for PPH in the scenario of combined use of oxytocin.

- Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is defined as blood loss of more than 500 mL after vaginal delivery or more than 1000 mL after cesarean section, or blood loss exceeding 10% of the pre-delivery blood volume within 24 hours of delivery. PPH is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality, especially in developing countries. The main risk factors for PPH include uterine atony, retained placenta, uterine rupture, coagulation disorders, etc. The prevention and treatment of PPH are important measures to improve the quality of life and reduce the mortality rate of pregnant and postpartum women.
