- Pomegranate is one of the beneficial fruits that has been used by traditional medicine for hundreds of years and was used to treat dyslipidemia, atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, and various types of cancer, diabetes, stomach ulcers, and oral diseases. However, according to meta-analysis studies, contrary to what was thought in the past, pomegranate is not useful for diabetes and has no effect on FBI, FBG, HbA1c factors. Based on the results of pomegranate studies, with its diverse phytochemicals, it can play a role in cancer through several mechanisms, these mechanisms include induction of apoptosis, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties, anti-proliferative ), tumor anti-angiogenesis, inhibition of tumor invasion, reduction of signaling such as NF-κB, PI3K/AKT/mTOR/Wnt, reduction of expression of anti-apoptotic genes such as MMPs, VEGF, c-met, cyclins Cdks, reduction of pro-inflammatory factors be. Clinical studies have been conducted on the effect of pomegranate on head and neck, prostate, breast, and colorectal cancers. But since the results of the studies are contradictory and no systematic study has been done in this field, this study is the first systematic review of the clinical studies conducted to evaluate the effect of pomegranate on cancer patients.
