Title
A systematic review and meta-analysis of the pomegranate effects on cardiometabolic outcomes in metabolic syndrome patients
Review Question
Can pomegranate intake affect the cardiometabolic risk factors including fasting blood sugar, insulin resistance, measured through the Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) and quantitative insulin sensitivity check (QUICKI), lipid profile, total cholesterol, triglycerides, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and anthropometric indices in patients with metabolic syndrome and related disorders?
Study Type Included
Randomized controlled trials (RCT) either parallel or cross-over
Condition Being Studied
Unhealthy adults with metabolic syndrome and related diseases
Participant
Unhealthy adults with metabolic syndrome and related diseases
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
We will include studies on interventions by pomegranate intake, administrated orally in any doses and one weeks or more of duration
Comparator Control
Compare to placebo or other oils or no intervention
Main Outcome
Primary interest outcomes are cardiometabolic outcomes like fasting blood sugar, HbA1c, lipid profile, blood pressure, therefore trials that report at least one of these indices were included Measures of effect The effect size for interest variables will be calculated and reported as the pooled standard mean difference (SMD) and the 95% confidence interval (CI).
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
Anthropometric indices such as weight, body mass index, and waist circumference.
Study Method
Meta-analysis, Systematic review
