Title
Efficacy of arnica montana on ecchymosis and edema for aesthetic facial plastic surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Review Question
What is the efficacy of arnica montana on ecchymosis and edema for aesthetic facial plastic surgery?
Study Type Included
Only randomized controlled trials will be included
Condition Being Studied
Despite multiple studies, the efficacy of arnica montana on aesthetic facial plastic surgery individual endpoits, such as ecchymosis and edema, is not clear. These important clinical outcomes are often studied as secondary endpoints in the individual randomized trials. Therefore, trials typically lack enough power for a definitive assessment of these endpoints, especially in subgroups. Indeed, most trials of arnica montana have shown no significant comparison with the placebo. Likewise, individual trials lack sufficient statistical power to identify significant differences in outcomes among various forms of arnica montana, including oral and topical applications. Therefore, we aim to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis examining the efficacy of arnica montana in patients undergoing aesthetic facial plastic surgery specifically interested in end-points such as ecchymosis and edema, as well as the secondary outcomes. We also intend to conduct subgroup analyses to assess the efficacy of oral arnica and topical arnica montana in aesthetic facial plastic surgery.
Participant
We will include randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing arnica montana with placebo in patients undergoing aesthetic facial plastic surgery, reporting the clinical outcomes of interest. We will exclude studies with overlapping participant groups, those lacking a control group, and those involving individuals under the age of 18.
