Title
Efficacy of Oral Aloe Vera Supplementation on Skin wrinkles, Hydration, Elasticity, Transepidermal Water Loss and Collagen Score: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
Review Question
Does aloe vera oral supplementation has any effect on skin wrinkles, hydration, elasticity, TEWL, or collagen score?
Study Type Included
only RTCs
Condition Being Studied
Wrinkles are major features of aging; and skin hydration, skin elasticity, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and collagen score are some parameters used in measuring the skin’s resilience to wrinkles. Orally administered aloe vera supplements have shown promise in alleviating some of these skin aging parameters. To determine the effects of oral aloe vera supplements on skin wrinkles, hydration, elasticity, TEWL, and collagen score compared with placebo or no treatment.
Participant
Healthy adults between 18 to 80.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Oral preparations of Aloe Vera supplementation.
Comparator Control
Placebo and no treatment in randomized controlled trials (RCTs)
Main Outcome
Wrinkle mean depth, maximum width, skin hydration, TEWL, collagen score, and skin elasticity will be assessed as outcomes. Measures of effect since the outcomes are continuous, mean difference or standardized mean difference will be assessed.
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
• Changes in skin image as measured by Visiometer or photograph • Wrinkles mean depth, intensity, and distribution measured by skin replica. Measures of effect Since the outcomes are continuous, mean difference or standardized mean difference will be assessed.
Study Method
Intervention, Systematic review
