- Title
- Beneficial Effects of Ganoderma Lucidum on Metabolic Profiles among Human Studies: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials (RCT)
- Review Question
- Does Ganoderma Lucidum supplementation have beneficial effects on metabolic profiles?
- Study Type Included
- Articles are designed as interventional studies, either RCTs, non-RCTs, quasi-experimental studies, or multiple arm studies.
- Condition Being Studied
- Internal Medicine, Endocrine, Complementary and Alternative Medicine
- Participant
- Inclusion criteria for participants: - Human studies that assessed the effects of G.lucidum on metabolic profiles (lipid and glycemic parameters) Exclusion criteria for participants: - taking medications that may interact with G. lucidum (such as warfarin or aspirin) or subjects with any disease interfering with weight loss - the use of any weight-loss or fat-blocking drugs - Known mushroom allergy - Pregnancy and breastfeeding - being on immunosuppressants - diagnosed mental illness
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- All participants in the intervention groups received oral G.lucidum
- Comparator Control
- Participants were given placebo
- Main Outcome
- Outcomes of interest in this study are the differences of lipid profiles (total cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides, HDL) and glycemic profiles (fasting plasma glucose) between the G.lucidum and the placebo group. Measures of effect Lipid profiles (total cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides, HDL), fasting plasma glucose (FPG) for patients in the G.lucidum group and placebo group are going to be measured and reported as numerical (continuous) data. The data will be presented in mean ± standard deviation for normally distributed data or median (interquartile range) for non-normally distributed data. The p-value will also be included for each item to show if the results are significant.
- Outcome Measure
- Additional Outcome
- anthropometric (BMI, weight), blood pressure, liver functions, antioxidant parameters Measures of effect These outcomes are not going to computed in the meta-analysis and only undergo qualitative synthesis.
