Review Question
How does Valeriana Officinalis effect on primary dysmenorrhea?
Study Type Included
All randomized, controlled clinical trials that have investigated the effects of Valerian on primary dysmenorrhea will be included in this systematic review. Review, animal, cross-sectional, case-control, and prospective cohort studies will be excluded.
Condition Being Studied
Dysmenorrhea can be defined as the presence of menstrual-related spasmodic pain in the abdomen. In primary dysmenorrhea, pain is present without any pelvic disorder and is more common among younger women, but may persist into the fifth decade of life.
Participant
The participants in the selected studies will be young girls who complain of primary dysmenorrhea.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
The intervention group of the studies must have received Valerian. Administration of Valerian should be in the form of capsules or plant extract.
Comparator Control
The comparison group must have received a placebo or an Nsaid.
