- Discomfort and pain are classic prodromal symptoms that arise 24-48 hours before the onset of the ulcer. A typical aphthous ulcer is a painful round or oval lesion measuring 1- 5 mm in diameter . It is an inflammatory illness whose cause is unclear. It has been stated that it affects 5-25% of the normal population, however depending on the group examined, it may impact 50% of the population. Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic mucocutaneous inflammatory disease that causes skin and oral mucous membrane eruptions. The disease's etiology is unknown; however it has been linked to stress and viral infections. Atrophic and erosive versions of this illness are often painful. Radiation-induced oral mucositis is related with radiation treatment as a direct consequence and as a secondary effect due to increased effects of physical, chemical, and microbiological insults in the mouth. Mucosal breakdown is painful and can interfere with oral functions. It can cause considerable discomfort, dysphagia, a change in nutritional status, and an increased risk of localized infections that can spread systemically
