Title
The Therapeutic Potencial of Mucuna pruriens in Motor Symptomatology of Parkinson's Disease: A Systematic Review
Review Question
“What are the results of the studies that relate the use of Mucuna pruriens and the motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease?”
Study Type Included
I will include clinical trials (conducted on humans).
Condition Being Studied
Parkinson's disease
Participant
Inclusion: studies with individuals with Parkinson's disease, already presenting motor symptoms; studies that portray the theme related to Parkinson's Disease, use of Mucuna pruriens, and present results regarding motor activity; clinical trials (conducted on humans); studies published in Portuguese or English.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
In the elderly, Parkinson's disease (PD) is highly prevalent. In fact, a significant increase in this population is expected. Added to the motor effects of aging, the motor symptomatology of PD makes the patient more dependent on their caregivers, reducing the patient's quality of life and well-being. Mucuna pruriens has shown promising results on motricity and other symptoms of PD, proving to be a good candidate to be implemented in the future in the therapeutic plan for PD. Aiming to analyze the potential of Mucuna pruriens as an adjuvant phytotherapeutic alternative for the treatment of PD, a search will be carried out in the scientific databases.
Comparator Control
The comparator is a non-exposed control group using standard care.
Main Outcome
I'm aiming to analyze the potential of Mucuna pruriens as an adjuvant phytotherapeutic alternative for the treatment of Parkinson's disease
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
• To verify the effectiveness of Mucuna pruriens on the motor symptomatology of Parkinson's Disease; • Describe the other therapeutic effects, referring to the use of Mucuna pruriens, which may be beneficial to patients with Parkinson's Disease.
