What is the impact of berberine supplementation on systolic blood pressure? What is the impact of berberine supplementation on diastolic blood pressure?
Study Type Included
Randomized control trial studies whose control group received placebo.
Condition Being Studied
Hypertension, defined as having a systolic blood pressure (SBP) above 140 mm Hg and/or a diastolic blood pressure (DBP) above 90 mm Hg, is a major contributor to morbidity and mortality. It serves as a risk factor for various non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). The prevalence of hypertension in developed nations is steadily rising, placing a significant strain on healthcare systems.
Participant
Studies were included based on our eligibility criteria: 1) studies should include adult participants (≥ 18 years old) who have been intake with a berberine for any reason, 2) studies should use any form of berberine 3) studies should design parallel and/or crossover RCTs that measure the blood pressure written in English, 4) studies should report the comparisons between an intervention and a control group, 5) articles were written in English. Studies were excluded as follows: 1) preclinical studie , 2) combination therapy with berberine, 3) no trial, animal studies, review articles, conference abstracts, and letters to editor articles, did not measure the blood pressure. 4)No use of placebo in the control group

berberine consumption will be defined as follows: All forms include: Copti chinensi, Berberis aristata, Hydrastis canadensis, Berberis vulgaris.
Comparator Control
The control group received a placebo.
Main Outcome
blood pressure (systolic blood pressure and dyastolic blood pressure).
