- Review Question
- P:Vascular Dementia;I:Ginkgo biloba+donepezil;C:donepezil;O: MMSE/ADL/Barthel/ inflammatory factors and markers of oxidative stress.;S:RCT. Question:This study aims to investigate the efficacy and safety of combined Ginkgo biloba leaf extractpezil in patients with vascular dementia.
- Study Type Included
- Randomized controlled trials.
- Condition Being Studied
- Vascular dementia is a vascular cognitive impairment, making it the second most common type of dementia after Alzheimer's disease. There are currently no uniform standards for dementia treatment. Common treatments include cholinesterase inhibitors (such as Donepezil, galantamine, and NMDA receptor antagonists such as Memantine), which have been shown to improve cognitive function and score higher on behavioral scales in patients to varying degrees. However, these drugs can produce a variety of adverse reactions, such as digestive tract reactions, joint pain, dizziness, headache, constipation and so on. Since the 1980s, ginkgo biloba extract has been reported as a natural medicine with beneficial effects in many diseases. Although both ginkgo biloba formulations and Donepezil can treat vascular dementia, no meta-analysis studies have explored the efficacy and safety of the combination of ginkgo biloba formulations and Donepezil alone. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis of existing trials on the efficacy and safety of ginkgo biloba combined with Donepezil hydrochloride versus Donepezil in the treatment of vascular dementia.
