- Review Question
- Whether the use of topical minocycline would results in better efficacy and safety profile compared to the other topical agents (i.e., metronidazole, ivermectin, azelaic acid) for the management of moderate-to-severe papulopustular rosacea.
- Study Type Included
- Randomized controlled trials (RCTs)
- Condition Being Studied
- Papulopustular facial rosacea
- Participant
- Adult individuals aged ≥ 18 years with moderate to severe papulopustular facial rosacea defined as defined as an Investigator Global Assessment (IGA) score of 3 (moderate) or 4 (severe)
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- Topical Minocycline foam 1% vs 1.5% vs 3% Metronidazole gel or cream 1% vs 0.75% Azelaic acid 15% vs 20% Ivermectin 1%
- Comparator Control
- Topical vehicle (placebo) or another topical agent (i.e., Metronidazole, Azelaic acid, or Ivermectin)
- Main Outcome
- proportion of patients achieving success on the IGA score (i.e., IGA 0 “clear” or 1 “almost clear”) Measures of effect Odds ratio
- Outcome Measure
- Additional Outcome
- Inflammatory lesion count, erythema severity score, Rosacea Quality of Life Index (RosaQoL) score, facial local tolerability, patient satisfaction, and adverse events Measures of effect Odds ratio will be used to represent the dichotomous outcomes: patient satisfaction, facial local tolerability, and adverse events. Mean difference (MD) will be used to represent the continuous outcomes: inflammatory lesion count, erythema severity score, Rosacea Quality of Life Index (RosaQoL) score.
