- Title
- Qiming granules for Diabetic Retinopathy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
- Review Question
- According to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, diabetic retinopathy is attributed to wasting-and-thirst disease (diabetes), which arises from liver and kidney deficiency, Yin deficiency and essence deficiency, as well as blood stasis obstructing collaterals. Consequently, it leads to both nourishment insufficiency in the eyes and a depletion of qi and Yin. Qiming granules have been widely employed in recent years for treating microvascular complications associated with chronic diseases. They possess remarkable properties such as nourishing the liver and kidneys, invigorating qi and replenishing Yin, clearing the liver and improving visual acuity, promoting blood circulation while eliminating blood stasis. Qiming granule stands out among various Chinese patent medicines used for managing diabetic retinopathy (DR) due to its increasing clinical recognition within Chinese medicine field. However, previous evaluations lacked sufficient studies included along with their outcomes. This study aims at comprehensively assessing the safety and efficacy of Qiming granule in treating diabetic retinopathy so as to establish a reliable foundation for employing Chinese patent medicine in DR treatment. Moreover, this research endeavor seeks to enrich evidence-based proof within traditional Chinese medicine research domain while advancing the clinical application of Qiming granule.

- Condition Being Studied
- The International Diabetes Federation estimates that there are 463 million adults aged 20 to 79 years with diabetes worldwide, and this number is expected to increase to 642 million by 2040. Diabetic retinopathy is a common microvascular complication of diabetes that can lead to vision loss. It is the leading cause of blindness worldwide for those aged 25 to 75 years. The Global Burden of Disease study found that DR Is the fifth leading cause of blindness and moderate and severe visual impairment in adults aged 50 years and older. In particular, the global age-standardized prevalence of blindness due to diabetic eye disease increased by 14.9% to 18.5% from 1990 to 2020. The burden of DR And the need for eye care and treatment are expected to increase as the global population ages rapidly, people with diabetes live longer, and lifestyle changes lead to an increased risk of diabetes.
- Participant
- The Patients with a clinical diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy that meets the clinical staging and is not combined with other organic ocular diseases. There was no restriction on the patient's gender, age, or disease duration.
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- The trial group will use Qiming granules as the main intervention or loading treatment regimen, and the control group will use conventional treatment, and the specific type of conventional treatment will not be limited. If the study is a loading design, the trial loading design scheme must be consistent between the two groups in the same study.
- Comparator Control
- The trial group will use Qiming granules as the main intervention or loading treatment regimen, and the control group will use conventional treatment, and the specific type of conventional treatment will not be limited. If the study is a loading design, the trial loading design scheme must be consistent between the two groups in the same study.
