- Title
- Efficacy and Safety of Elemene Injection Combined with Cranial Radiotherapy for Brain Metastases from Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
- Review Question
- The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to evaluate efficacy and safety of combined cranial radiotherapy with elemene injection for brain metastases from non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
- Study Type Included
- Only Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) with or without the blinded method will be included in this study.
- Condition Being Studied
- According to the statistics released by the National Cancer Center in 2022, there were about 828100 new cases and 657000 deaths of lung cancer in China in 2016, ranking first in the incidence and mortality of malignant tumors. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for 85% of all lung cancer patients. Approximately 30-50% of NSCLC patients would develop brain metastases (BMs) during the course of their disease. And patients with brain metastases from lung cancer have a poor prognosis with median survival ranging from 3 to 14 months. According to Latest 2021 National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines, cranial radiotherapy (RT) such as whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is a mainstay of treatment for patients with BMs. But, data on the survival of BMs of NSCLC are still poor. Cause the existence of blood-brain barrier (BBB), traditional cytotoxic drugs played a limited role. Elemene may be a new potentially alternative therapeutic drug for BMs, due to penetrating the BBB.
- Participant
- Inclusion: Patients with brain metastases from non-small cell lung cancer will be considered eligible included in this review, including parenchymal metastases and meningeal metastases.
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- The experimental group: On the basis of radiotherapy, the patients were treated with elemene injection.
- Comparator Control
- The control group: Only radiotherapy is used, including WBRT and SRS.
- Main Outcome
- 1. Objective response rate (ORR); 2. Overall survival (OS); 3. Progress Free Survival (PFS); Any other outcomes reported in the eligible studies will be extracted and reported. Measures of effect Objective response rate (ORR) at the end of treatment or follow-up was calculated. Overall survival (OS) at the end of treatment or follow-up was calculated. Progress Free Survival (PFS) at the end of treatment or follow-up was calculated.
- Outcome Measure
- Additional Outcome
- 1. Progression-free survival (PFS); 2. PFS of the central nervous system (CNS); 3. CNS-ORR; 4. Disease control rate (DCR); 5. CNS-DCR; 6. 1 year survival rate; 7. toxicity; 8. Mortality Rate; 9. Quality of Life. Measures of effect All additional outcomes will be measured at the end of treatment and follow-up.
