Efficacy and Safety of Shenling Baizhu San in treating obesity combined with type 2 diabetes mellitus:A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Review Question
Efficacy and Safety of Shenling Baizhu San in treating obesity combined with type 2 diabetes mellitus:A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Study Type Included
All randomized controlled trials of Shenling Baizhu San in treating obesity combined with type 2 diabetes mellitus were included. The gender and age of patients were not limited. The exclusion criteria were as follows: studies with incomplete or incorrect data, experimental group or control group combined with other TCM during treatment, and Animal experiments and review literature.
Condition Being Studied
Obesity is a chronic metabolic disease caused by excessive body fat accumulation due to higher body calorie intake than consumption, and the measured body mass rate is far beyond the standard body mass rate .Various concurrent diseases with obesity, such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), hypertension, atherosclerosis, also affect and disturb people’s health and life . Obesity, as a prodrome, is a significant factor in T2DM pathogenesis . Currently, most obese patients with T2DM are treated with metformin, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists, and dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) inhibitors..In recent years, clinical studies on using TCM to treat obesity combined with T2DM have emerged gradually, and the increasing number of clinical observations have demonstrated their good efficacy in reducing body mass index, improving insulin resistance, and correcting maladjusted endocrine function .
Participant
Patients enrolled in this study were all diagnosed with T2DM combined with obesity and had established diagnostic criteria; obesity was defined as body mass index (BMI) > 28 kg/m2 ; regardless of gender, age, race or course of disease. The intervention plan of treatment group included simple Shenling Baizhu San, or Shenling Baizhu San combined with Western medicine. The outcome indicators should include at least one of the following: total effective rate, body mass index (BMI), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), haemoglobin A1c (HbA1C)), triglyceride (TG), waist circumference, and body fat rate. The exclusion criteria were as follows: studies with incomplete or incorrect data, experimental group or control group combined with other TCM during treatment, and Animal experiments and review literature.

Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
The control group will include Western medicine protocols, while interventional group will include Shenling Baizhu San(SLBZ) treatment protocols. There will be no limitations on SLBZ dosage, treatment, or manufacturer. The interventional group or control group combined with other TCM during treatment were excluded .
Comparator Control
The control group will include western medicine protocols, such as oral Metformin, Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist and dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) inhibitor.
Main Outcome
Main outcomes included effective rate of clinical symptoms, body mass index (BMI), and fasting plasma glucose (FPG). Measures of effect
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
Additional outcomes included measurement of blood glucose levels (such as haemoglobin A1c (HbA1C)), measurement of obesity levels (such as triglyceride (TG), waist circumference, and body fat rate)).
