Title
Clinical efficacy and safety of Astragalus-based Chinese herbal injections combined with platinum-based chemotherapy for advanced non-small cell lung cancer: a network meta-analysis of randomized control trials
Review Question
Are Astragalus-based Chinese medicine injections effective for advanced non-small cell lung cancer? What are the advantages of Astragalus-based Chinese medicine injections compared with platinum-based chemotherapy in the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer?
Study Type Included
Randomized controlled trial
Condition Being Studied
Non-small cell lung cancer is the most common tumor of the chest. Platinum-containing chemotherapy is the most common treatment for patients with non-small cell lung cancer. However, platinum-based drugs can bring adverse events such as myelosuppression, nausea and vomiting, which affect their quality of life. Previous studies have shown that astragalus-based herbs combined with platinum-based chemotherapy can be efficacious and toxicity-reducing. However, there are many types of Chinese medicines and it is not clear which astragalus-based Chinese medicine has better efficacy and safety. The purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy and safety of five traditional Chinese medicine injections for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer.
Participant
Patients with non-small cell lung cancer with a definitive pathologic or cytologic diagnosis and TNM imaging stage III-IV. There are no restrictions on their age, sex or race.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Aidi Injection or Shenqi Fuzheng Injection or Kang'ai Injection or Astragalus Polysaccharide Injection or Huangqi Injection in combination with platinum-containing chemotherapy regimens.
Comparator Control
Placebo combined with a platinum-containing chemotherapy regimen or a platinum-containing chemotherapy regimen only.
Main Outcome
Objective response rate Measures of effect The total efficiency is dichotomous type data and the results of syntheses will be expressed as OR and 95% CI.
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
Disease control rate, kps improvement rate, immune function (CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD4+/CD8+, NK), adverse events (leukopenia, nausea and vomiting, etc.) Measures of effect If the outcomes are continuous, the results of syntheses will be expressed as MD or SMD and 95% CI. If the outcomes are dichotomous, the results of syntheses will be expressed as OR and 95% CI.
Study Method
Intervention, Network meta-analysis, Systematic review
