Title
Efficacy and Safety of the Three Commonly Used Chinese Patent Medicines Combined with Conventional Western Medicine in Treating Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy: A Network Meta-analysis
Review Question
Which is more effective and safer to treat non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy with three commonly used proprietary Chinese medicines in combination with conventional Western medicines? A Network Meta-analysis.
Study Type Included
Randomized controlled trials, regardless of study geography, whether blinded or not, Chinese and English literature only.
Condition Being Studied
Diabetic retinopathy is now recognized as one of the serious diabetic microangiopathies. It is divided into non-proliferative and proliferative lesions according to whether neovascularization appears in the fundus. Once the disease progresses to PDR, the condition is serious and the treatment cost is high, so it is extremely important to actively take pharmacological treatment during the period of NPDR. In recent years, the application of Chinese medicine has made great progress in the treatment of NPDR, and Qiming granules, Fuxiang Danshen Dripping Pills and Fuxiang Thromboxylon Capsules, as three Chinese medicines commonly used in clinical practice, have remarkable efficacy. Therefore, the differences in the efficacy of different TCM drugs in the treatment of NPDP are compared and ranked by using the reticulated Meta-analysis method, in order to provide reference and evidence-based medical evidence to support the clinical optimization of drug selection.
Participant
Patients were required to be NPDR patients of all levels eligible for DR staging diagnosis, regardless of age, sex, occupation and region of origin.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
In the experimental group, Qiming granules, compound Danshen drops and compound thromboxane capsules were added to the conventional western medicine.
Comparator Control
Conventional western drugs for the treatment of NPDR
Main Outcome
Total effective rate, visual acuity, macular thickness, hemorrhagic spot area, hemangioma volume, visual field gray value, incidence of adverse effects
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
Ultrasensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP)], vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), peak systolic flow velocity (PSV), end-diastolic flow velocity (EDV), flow resistance index (RI) and pulsatility index (PI), etc.
Study Method
Meta-analysis, Systematic review
