- Title
- Comparative efficacy of 6 Traditional Chinese patent medicines recommended from guidelines combined with lifestyle modification in patients with prediabetes: A network meta-analysis
- Review Question
- The aim of this meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of 6 Traditional Chinese patent medicines recommended from guidelines combined with lifestyle modification in patients with prediabetes.
- Study Type Included
- Randomized clinical trials will be included irrespective of blinding, publication status or language
- Condition Being Studied
- Prediabetes is an abnormal state of glucose metabolism between normal blood sugar and diabetes, including impaired fasting glucose(IFG) or impaired glucose tolerance(IGT)or both (IFG+IGT), which means that fasting blood glucose(FBG) and/or 2h postprandial blood glucose (PBG) in oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) increase but do not meet the diagnostic criteria for diabetes. The latest data released by the International Diabetes Federation in 2019 showedthat 1 in 13 adults (20-79 years) had impaired glucose tolerance(374 million people) worldwide. It was estimated that the number of people with prediabetes could rise to 472 million by 2030. An epidemiological survey organized by Chinese Diabetes Society (CDS) in 2010 showed that the prevalence of prediabetes in China was 50.1%. The emergence of prediabetes will mark the increased risk of diabetes, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, microvascular diseases, tumors and dementia in the future . Timely detection and effective management of prediabetes are the key to prevent the occurrence of diabetes and its complications. Domestic and foreign diabetes guidelines and clinical practices mainly focus on health education, diet adjustment, regular exercise or drug intervention, but there are some shortcomings in patient compliance, long-term safety and health benefit.
- Participant
- We will include these type of participants: patients diagnosed with prediabetes(IFG+IGT)) either using WHO 2020 CDS Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of T2DM or 2020 American Diabetes Association diagnostic criteria. Race, age and gender were not limited. We will exclude these type of participants: pregnant and lactating patients

- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- Main intervention: The experimental group was treated with lifestyle modification combined with Traditional Chinese patent medicines, including Shen qi jiang tang capsule/granule/tablet, Tian mai xiao ke capsule/granule/table, Tian qi capsule/ granule/tablet, Jin qi jiang tang capsule/granule/table, Jin li dacapsule/granule/table, Tang mai kang capsule/granule/tablet.
- Comparator Control
- The control group was treated with oral hypoglycemic drugs or lifestyle modification.
- Main Outcome
- The primary outcomes included the ratio of converting to DM according to standard Western medicine diagnostic criteria by the end of the trial. Measures of effect odds ratio (OR) was used for counting data
