Efficacy and safety of Yixuesheng Capsule for Iron deficiency anemia: A system review and meta-analysis
Review Question
Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is a type of anemia caused by a variety of factors that cause the lack or depletion of iron storage in the body, thereby reducing the synthesis of hemoglobin. At present, the clinical trails of Yixuesheng capsule or Yixuesheng capsule combined with iron agent in the treatment of IDA are gradually increasing. Modern pharmacological studies have found that the components in Yixuesheng capsule have pharmacological effects of stimulating hematopoietic system and improving iron metabolism. Therefore, this meta-analysis aims to analyze the efficacy and safety of Yixuesheng capsule in the treatment of IDA.
Study Type Included
Inclusion criteria: randomized controlled trial or clinical controlled trial. Exclusion criteria: (a) incomplete data: unclear evaluation, diagnosis and outcome, etc. (b) repeated studies; (c) inappropriate types: reviews, experiences, animal or cell studies, etc.
Condition Being Studied
Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is a kind of anemia caused by insufficient absorption or excessive loss of iron . Its common clinical manifestations are pale skin and mucosa, fatigue, palpitation. IDA reduces the quality of life and labor ability, and is a poor prognostic factor of chronic diseases, so timely diagnosis and treatment of IDA is particularly important. Due to the growth and development needs of pregnant women and children, the incidence of IDA is higher among them. At present, the drug treatment regimen for IDA is iron supplement, or iron supplement supplemented with vitamin C to promote iron absorption. However, the rate of adverse events of iron supplementation are high. Nausea, oxidative stress, iron overload and other adverse effects are common in intravenous iron supplementation. The most common adverse reaction of oral iron was gastrointestinal irritation. Therefore, considering the adverse reactions and absorption of iron, it is an urgent practical problem to find a new treatment or supplementary plan for IDA.
Participant
Inclusion criteria: studies of patients diagnosed with IDA, regardless of gender or age. Exclusion criteria: (a) Sample size of study less than 10 IDA patients included. (b) IDA patients complicated with other severe internal diseases.

Inclusion criteria: the treatment group took Yixuesheng capsule alone or combined with one kind of iron supplementation. Exclusion criteria: Yixuesheng capsule was used in control group.

Inclusion criteria: the treatment group took Yixuesheng capsule alone or combined with one kind of iron supplementation. Exclusion criteria: Yixuesheng capsule was used in control group.
Main Outcome
Efficacy outcomes including effective rate, hemoglobin level (Hb), serum iron(SI), serum ferritin (SF), total iron binding capacity (TIBC), transferrin receptor (sTFR), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean hemoglobin content (MCH), etc. Safety outcomes including rate of adverse events, type of adverse events, etc.
