- Title
- Seven Chinese patent medicines combined with conventional triple/quadruple therapy for Helicobacter pylori-positive peptic ulcers: A systematic review and network meta-Analysis
- Review Question
- We aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of the seven Chinese patent medicines combined with conventional triple/quadruple therapy in the treatment of Helicobacter pylori-positive peptic ulcers
- Study Type Included
- Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) will be included. Observational, cohort, case-control, case series, qualitative and laboratory studies, and uncontrolled trials will be excluded.
- Condition Being Studied
- As one of the most common gastrointestinal disorder in clinical practice, peptic ulcer is associated with Helicobacter pylori infection. It resulted in most international guidelines advocating the triple or quadruple therapy for Helicobacter pylori-positive peptic ulcers. The triple therapy requires two antibiotics and a proton pump inhibitor, the quadruple therapy is the triple therapy plus bismuth. But the increasing antibiotic resistance rate has made the eradication of H. pylori more difficult, and the triple or quadruple therapy with longer treatment durations could induce more adverse events. In recent years, numerous studies have shown that the combination of Chinese patent medicines compound and conventional triple/quadruple therapy can improve the efficacy and safety on the treatment of Helicobacter pylori-positive peptic ulcer. But there are no studies to directly or indirectly compare the efficacy and safety between the different Chinese patent medicines up to now. Therefore, we planed to implement a network meta-analysis to determine which one can achieve the superior therapeutic effect.
- Participant
- Inclusion criteria: Patients with Helicobacter pylori-positive peptic ulcers without limitations on sex, race, region, or nationality. Exclusion criteria: Incongruent with the diagnosis, such as without diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori-positive
- Animal
- Human Disease Modelled
- Intervention
- Inclusion criteria: Experimental groups received the Chinese patent medicines combined with conventional triple/quadruple therapy. The Chinese patent medicines include Anweiyang capsule, Jianweiyuyang tablets/capsule/granule, Jinghuaweikang capsule, Kangfuxin liquid, Puyuanhewei capsule, Weifuchun tablets/capsule, Weisu granule. Each Chinese patent medicine is a separate intervention in the analysis. Exclusion criteria: If the patients in the experimental group were treated with a different Chinese patent medicine, the study will be excluded.
- Comparator Control
- Inclusion criteria: The control group was treated with the triple or quadruple therapy, the triple therapy requires two antibiotics and a proton pump inhibitor, the quadruple therapy is the triple therapy plus bismuth. Exclusion criteria: If the triple or quadruple therapy is not identical in the experimental and control groups,or the duration of the antibiotic course exceeded two weeks, the study would be excluded.
