Title
Motherwort injection for preventing uterine hemorrhage in women with induced abortion: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized evidence
Review Question
This aim of this meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials is to access the effectiveness and safety of motherwort injection alone or combined with oxytocin for preventing uterine hemorrhage in women with induced abortion.
Study Type Included
Randomized controlled trials
Condition Being Studied
Approximately 205 million pregnancies occur each year worldwide. Over a third are unintended and about a fifth end in induced abortion. Insufficiency of induced abortion is a major cause of maternal death, especially in the developing world. Uterine insufficiency is the most risk factor for the insufficiency of induced abortion. The clinical manifestations include some symptoms such as prolonged postoperative bleeding, massive bleeding, and soreness in the waist and knees. Therefore, in clinical practice, we often use oxytocin to prevent this from happening.
Participant
Inclusion criteria: Patients who need to terminate their pregnancy within 10 weeks of pregnancy Exclusion criteria: Patients with ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids; Patients with liver and kidney dysfunction; Patients with cardiopulmonary insufficiency; Patients with failed abortion
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Motherwort injection alone or Motherwort injection combined with oxytocin
Comparator Control
Oxytocin alone
Main Outcome
1. Duration of uterine hemorrhage: the number of days from the day of the induced abortion to the complete cessation of vaginal hemorrhage. 2. Volume of Uterine hemorrhage: It is the comparison between postoperative uterine hemorrhage volume and normal menstrual volume before pregnancy. The amount is recorded in ML as a unit of measurement. 3. The occurrence of adverse reactions. 4. Recovery time of normal menstruation: the time when the first menstruation regained after artificial abortion, including date, volume, and color. 5. Endometrial thickness Measures of effect We will calculate dichotomous data as rate ratios (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) and continuous data as mean differences (MDs) with 95% CIs.
