- Dementia is a disease in which memory, thought, and behavior-related disorders progress gradually due to brain damage caused by injury or disease. It is mainly caused by Alzheimer’s disease or vascular dementia and several other risk factors, including genetic factors. Nearly 47.5 million people worldwide have dementia.The challenge to families and health and socialservices is substantial.At present, the treatment of Dementia uses drugs. Western medicine mostly takes drugs such as cholinesterase inhibitors and NMDA receptor antagonists to treat dementia, but the overall effect is not ideal due to the complicated pathogenesis of Dementia. Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) has made up for the deficiency and limitation of western medicine treatments on Dementia through holistic, comprehensive and dynamic methods. In recent years, Dengzhan Shengmai Capsule has been studied in the treatment of AD.However, the efficacy of Dengzhan Shengmai Capsule have not yet reached a definitive conclusion. Therefore, this research is designed to evaluate the efficacy of the Dengzhan Shengmai Capsule for Dementia using the method of systematic review and meta-analysis.
- Participant
- The participants should meet the criteria for dementia as defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (4th edition), regardless of their degree and possible complications. There is no limitation in their genders, races and regions.

- All treatment modality performed of Dengzhan Shengmai Capsules in dementia will be considered as interventions.
- Comparator Control
- The control group received conventional western medicine treatment.
- Main Outcome
- 1.The cognitive function of dementia was measured by the Simple Intelligence Mental State Scale (MMSE), Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale (MoCA). 2.The ability to take care of oneself in daily life in dementia was measured by the Ability to Perform Daily Living Scale (ADL).
