What is the long term efficacy of Chinese patent medicine Dengzhan Shengmai capsule for ischemic stroke? 3. Is it safe to treat some disease?

- Condition Being Studied
- Ischemic stroke, the most common type of stroke, is the leading cause of death and disability adjusted life years (DALYs) in China, giving a heavy economic burden to patients and society, according to the latest report of the global burden of disease. In mainland China, Chinese herbal medicine including Chinese herbal decoction and Chinese herbal drugs, is usually used in addition to the conventional medication aiming to improving the global effectiveness for treating ischemic stroke. Dengzhan Shengmai (DZSM) capsule is a Chinese herbal drug for cardiocerebrovascular disease. It is composed of four herbs, including Erigerontis Herba, Ginseng Radix, Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus and Ophiopogon japonicas. Modern pharmacological studies reveal that scutellarin, the main ingredient of DZSM, presents the effect of lowering blood viscosity, repressing platelet aggregation, reducing blood flow resistance, improving microcirculation, and regulating blood lipids. Although a similar systematic review on DZSM for ischemic stroke has revealed the benefits of DSZM，many trials has emerged in succession for recent years and we will conducted an updated review.

- Participants with ischemic stroke were included. They should include a standard diagnosis according to universal criteria such as the statements in AHA/ASA guidelines and the diagnosis should be supported by Computed Tomography (CT) or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

- Chinese patent medicine Dengzhan Shengmai capsule or combined with conventional medicine was regarded as the intervention, regardless of its dosage, duration.
- Comparator Control
- Comparisons include placebo, conventional medicine and blank control.
- Main Outcome
- Primary outcomes include effectiveness rate, recurrence of stoke, all-cause mortality and dependence assessed by Bathel Index and modified Rankin Scale. Measures of effect Time point: follow-up or treatment time is more than 3 months

- Secondary outcomes include the following: 1. Neurological function deficit measured by scales. 2. Related hemorheology outcomes, such as blood lipids. 3. Cardiovascular events. 4. Adverse events. Measures of effect Time point: follow-up or treatment time is more than 3 months
